How I scaled Search Atlas from $2M to $30M ARR

I'm the COO and co-founder who grew Search Atlas Group to $30M ARR over five years — profitably, and without raising the kind of venture capital that usually defines a story like this. Today the company runs 250+ people across three brands serving enterprise, mid-market, and SMB, and we've positioned ourselves at the front of Answer Engine Optimization while the whole industry is being rewritten underneath us.

We didn't follow the typical SaaS trajectory. In 2019, Manick and I launched LinkGraph as an enterprise agency first — generating revenue immediately, and using that work to inform what we'd eventually build in software. That agency-first approach got us to $10M ARR by 2022, serving clients like Roto-Rooter and Shutterfly, and it surfaced the exact market gaps that became OTTO SEO.

We were also remote-first from day one — a contrarian call that predated the pandemic's acceptance of distributed work. That infrastructure, built on documentation, asynchronous communication, and output-based performance, is what let us scale this fast across dozens of countries.

The playbook isn't a single tactic. It's the compounding effect of decisions that each looked early at the time: build revenue before product, hire for output not proximity, and make the bet before the answer is obvious.

Growth didn't happen despite the constraints we set. It happened because of them.
